"What's New With You?"

Romans 1:1-2:13, 6:4, 7:6

I. Chapter 1 - The Nature of the believer

A. Romans 1:1 - Paul ... called by God to be -

1. A servant of God and the church

2. An apostle among the other - He had seen the risen Lord

3. Separated - set apart to share the Good News

4. Obedient to the faith that set him free

B. Romans 1:6 - We are called by God to be -

1. Saints - living with the grace of God (v.7)

2. possessing the peace of God

3. encouraging by the Word of God (v.8)

4. Setting an example by the faith of God

5. Praying in the Spirit of God (v.9)

6. Working with our gifts - the work of God (v.11)

7. Pulling together for the sake of God (v.12)

8. Winning some to the glory of God (v.13)

9. So that He would set all free by the Good News of God (v.14-15)

- "For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth..." (v.16)

- (v.17) the ungodly, the unrighteous, the vain, the foolish, the corrupt, the unclean, the liar, the idolater, the adulterer, the perverted, the reprobate, the wicked, the covetous, the murderer, the deceiver, the backbiter, the athiest, the agnostic, the proud, the shy, the disobedient child, the uncaring parent, the selfish, the unbelieving, the almost believing, the ignorant, the learned, the unmerciful, the compassionate, the pleasure seeker, the self-loathing, the strong, the helpless, the one on death row, and you and me, and anyone else I may have missed.

II. The Nature of God

A. He is the judge of all - and the forgiver of all who believe

-He knows the heart, intentions, thoughts, and motivations of our lives

B. Repentance is His command

C. Reconciliation is His goal

D. Respect to one another is His expectation (v.11)

E. Relationship mending is His passion

F. Holiness is His standard for all

G. The Bible is His rule of faith and measuring stick

H. He wants hearers to be doers, and doers to be disciplers (v.13)

I. His will is that changed hearts will change lives

J. He desires us to be patient & compassionate, gentle yet firm, forgiven and forgiving

K. He expects us to use all we have, all we are, and all we hope to be for His glory and purpose

III. End Result

A. Romans 6:4 - walk in newness of life

B. Romans 7:6 - serve in newness of spirit

C. Victory
